History
Fox Electronics was founded in 1984 for the sole purpose of recycling Integrated Circuits from Printed Circuit
boards.  The purpose of this recycling was for re-distribution back into the electronic manufacturing
marketplace.  At the time of establishment a majority of used, obsolete and rejected printed circuit boards were
being disposed of by means of local landfills, and there was a very fragmented industry associated with the
recycling of IC’s.  The industry consisted of mostly mom and pop businesses, which took advantage of the
cyclical nature of the semiconductor industry.  Prosperity was found in times when there were worldwide
shortages of specific IC’s (usually DRAM’s) in the industry.  During times of over saturation, most of these
mom and pop operations closed shop and looked for other sources of revenue.  The entire industry (if you
could even call it that) at the time was solely dependent on the worldwide semiconductor marketplace, and the
supply capabilities of IC manufacturers.  This fragmented industry performed quite well during times of peak
demand for IC’s and floundered during times when there were overabundances of product worldwide.
Fox Electronics approached the IC recycling business differently
than the mom and pop establishments.  Rather than let the
semiconductor marketplace dictate what recycled integrated circuits
would be re-marketable, Fox Electronics set out to create demand
for all used integrated circuits, whether they were in high demand or
not, expensive or inexpensive.  The belief was that if you could
offer a previously used product at discounted prices, which was
every bit as good as the same new product, customers would beat a
path to their door.  What was found though, was that the recycling
of integrated circuits and electronic components from printed circuit
boards was
not an easy idea to generate interest in at all.
However, over time, things have changed.
Today not only is Fox Electronics the single largest processor of used
integrated circuits in the world, we are also one of the largest service
providers in the field of
End-Of-Life Management.  With over 100
employees, the operation occupies a 65,000 square foot, 5 acre facility in
the heart of the Silicon Valley, San Jose, California, and processes a
minimum of 1,500 tons of electronic scrap per month received from
numerous high-tech manufacturers worldwide. From this electronic scrap,
over 2,000,000 integrated circuits are removed, refurbished, repackaged
and resold on a monthly basis, along with numerous other peripherals. The
services offered have also diversified from its start-up days, to cover the
full gamut of
product recycling, remarketing, destruction and testing
as related to the high-tech manufacturing industry.
With an ever-expanding database of buyers and vendor sources, Fox Electronics
is not only a company that has the capacity and capability to recycle as much
electronic scrap as its clients can generate, but the technology to make it
transparent and seamless to your organization.
The staff of Fox Electronics has a broad understanding of the issues
surrounding  the future of environmental recycling and product
stewardship needs
, and this understanding has been justly
recognized through numerous news articles and awards received
from the international business community, such as:
Inc. Magazine, Top 500 Conference,
1996
