Diverting High-Tech Scrap Material From the Landfill is Our Priority

As governmental regulations become more stringent with regards to landfills, companies are now being forced to find alternative methods for disposal of their end-of-life high-tech goods. "Cradle to grave" liability laws have in effect forced changes in not only how materials are disposed of, but how they are engineered and manufactured. Fox Electronics has strategically positioned itself to handle these sweeping changes by diversifying the services offered to a point where it can handle basically all types of material used in the manufacturing process for the high-tech industry.

To acknowledge our outstanding adherence and innovative approach with regard to waste reduction, recycling and end-of-life management for the high-tech industry, Fox Electronics was the undisputed winner of the 1994 WRAP (Waste Reduction Awards Program) Award, presented by the State of California’s, Integrated Waste Management Board. In the year we received the award, Fox Electronics was diverting approximately 300 U.S. tons of material from landfill every month. Currently, due to increased capacity and a constantly growing list of satisfied customers, we are diverting over 1,500 U.S. tons of material each and every month from landfills. This dramatic increase is due to the fact that more and more organizations world wide, are putting their trust in the World Leader for High-Tech End-Of-Life Management, Fox Electronics.

Below are a few interesting items regarding Fox Electronics and our environmental awareness:

  • At Fox Electronics, less than 2% of the 1,500+ tons of material processed each month goes directly into landfill.

  • At Fox Electronics, we dispose of all material not consumed in our recycling and remarketing efforts through environmentally sound methods. These methods are not only monitored by State and Federal monitoring agencies, they are in strict compliance with said agencies, day in and day out, 100% of the time. This means that our customers are relieved of any worries relating to deep pocket settlements regarding toxic or hazardous waste cleanup.

  • In our facility, full compliance with the EPA, Cal OSHA, Bay Area Air Quality, and the State of California’s Integrated Waste Management Board, not only protects the environment, but our community and our employees. We have the most stringent controls and processes in our industry.

  • In Q3 1997, Fox Electronics invested over $200,000 in pollution control equipment upgrades, strictly in the area of air abatement. Ironically, this investment was not mandated by any governing body, but just another part of our own internal commitment towards employee and community safety.

Facts

Today, two computers become obsolete for every three purchased. By 2005, the ratio will be 1 to 1, which means that we should be able to recycle computers as fast as we make them. For this reason, recycling must be treated like any regular manufacturing task." [D. Navin- Chandra, Carnegie-Mellon University, Fortune Magazine, February 6, 1995]
